Almost a year has passed since Jo Jo Girl’s last win but her trainer can draw many positives heading into the McKell Cup at Randwick.

The prospect of a wet track on Saturday is a major factor in Wagga Wagga trainer Tim Donnelly’s decision to bring the mare to Sydney for Saturday’s Listed race.

The step up to 2400 metres from the 2000 of her local Cup is also in her favour.

Donnelly was not disappointed with her effort in the Wagga Gold Cup on May 1 when she finished ninth, three lengths from the winner Landlocked.

“The track was leader dominated on the day. The ground was firmer than she likes so overall I was pretty happy with her effort,” Donnelly said.

“The winner has come out and won again so that has franked the form from the race.

“The forecast is for rain on Thursday and the 2400 metres suits her so all in all it looks like a good race for her.

“And she seems to really like Randwick.”

Landlocked won over 1800 metres at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday on his way to bigger targets during the winter carnival in Queensland.

Jo Jo Girl won a 2590m benchmark race at Randwick last June and finished close second over 2000m at her next Randwick start in August.

Other than getting her back to winning form, Donnelly has no grand plans for Jo Jo Girl who is raced by a syndicate headed by southern districts race caller James Tait, a member of the prominent Riverina family which has raced champions Baguette and Tie The Knot.

Among the 14 McKell entries are Wagga Cup runner-up Faust along with Cardiff Prince and Our Voodoo Prince who ran sixth and seventh.

Our Voodoo Prince’s Chris Waller-trained stablemate Bagman heads the ratings on 99 from last year’s runner-up Destiny’s Kiss (97) and Melbourne stayer Shoreham who is also entered for the Andrew Ramsden Stakes (3200m) at Flemington.
