The addition of the washed out Hawkesbury Guineas to the Rosehill program has put temptation in the path of trainer Lee Curtis with talented filly Press Report.

Curtis and his owners did not originally enter her in the Guineas, put off by the prospect of racing her at Hawkesbury on a wet track.

They instead decided to target a 1200m benchmark 80 race at Rosehill a week later which is still an option along with the Guineas (1400m) now thrown into the mix.

The Group Three race has been extended from 1300 to 1400 metres as has the Darley Crown for fillies and mares, the other race from Saturday’s Hawkesbury cancellation added to this week’s Rosehill meeting.

“I knew the weather was coming last week so we didn’t nominate for Hawkesbury,” Curtis said.

“We picked out the benchmark race for her but with better weather predicted this week and the Guineas now on at Rosehill, it throws up the option.

“She has come on well since she ran at Randwick. She got held up a bit there but she has shown that she doesn’t go as well at Randwick as she does on her home track.

“I’d like to see a break in the weather. If it is fine and the track gets back to soft then that would give me more confidence to run in the Guineas.

“We’ll wait until Wednesday until a final decision.”

Press Report finished fourth in the Group Three J H B Carr Stakes (1400m) on April 18, 1-1/2 lengths from the winner Slightly Sweet.

Curtis is also eyeing off a trip to Brisbane with Press Report. Last spring she ran fourth in the Group One Flight Stakes (1600m) and Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) but this campaign is being kept to shorter races.

“There’s a fillies race almost every week up there over the carnival so there are plenty to choose from if we decide to go,” he said.

There were 20 Guineas entries taken on Monday with the Robbie Laing-trained Boomwaa another new addition.

The Victorian sprinter was not among the acceptors for Wednesday’s Wangoom at Warrnambool.
