Despite questions about their involvement this spring, Godolphin have remained committed to the Melbourne Cup, entering two gallopers for the race that stops the nation.
Godolphin have nominated Group 1 winner Cavalryman and the emerging Lost in the Moment for the Melbourne Cup.
Cavalryman was in good form earlier this year, finishing second to subsequent Kergolay winner Jukebox Jury at Newmarket in June.
However, he has finished last in his two starts since – both in German Group 1s.
Two starts ago, he finished tenth of ten behind Danedream, a race in which Lucas Cranach finished fifth.
Lost in the Moment, one of our fifteen horses to watch, has a much more appealing profile.
At his first run beyond 2200m, he ran a barnstorming second in the Group 2 Goodwood Cup (3200m) behind stablemate Opinion Poll.
However, he was disappointing in the Ebor Handicap last time around.
Godolphin’s racing manager Simon Crisford says a visit is not guaranteed, but is a likely proposition.
“Obviously, we will see how they do in their next races before making any decision about their possible participation,” Crisford said.
It was thought Godolphin may not return after they failed to nominate any horses for the Caulfield Cup or Cox Plate.
Nominations for the Melbourne Cup close at midday today.
