The first Melbourne Cup order of entry has been released by Racing Victoria following the release of weights on Tuesday.
If the race were to be run today, the top 24 would look as such (in ballot order):
1. Jukebox Jury
2. Americain
3. Dangerous Midge
4. Descarado
5. Lion Tamer
6. Shamrocker
7. Littorio
8. Cavalryman
9. Midas Touch
10. My Kingdom of Fife
11. Alandi
12. Mighty High
13. Brazilian Pulse
14. Harris Tweed
15. Absolutely
16. Meeznah
17. Maluckyday
18. Playing God
19. Dreamaway
20. Manighar
21. Glass Harmonium
22. Unusual Suspect
23. Once Were Wild
24. Scarlett Lady
Of these listed above, Maluckyday and Littorio are definitely out of the spring and will not be running in the Melbourne Cup, pushing internationals Drunken Sailor and Dunaden into the top 24.
Those considered unlikely include Dangerous Midge (probably won’t come), Descarado (sole aim Cox Plate), Alandi (hasn’t found form), Brazilian Pulse (shorter races) and Playing God (sole aim Cox Plate).
Other queries exist over Cavalryman (possible visitor), Meeznah (possible visitor), My Kingdom of Fife (unconfirmed target), Dreamaway (behind in preparation) and Glass Harmonium (unconfirmed target).
Following Drunken Sailor and Dunaden in the order are Linton, Precedence, Alcopop, Mourayan, Herculian Prince, Red Cadeaux and Lucas Cranach.
Star mares Lights of Heaven and King’s Rose are yet to pass the first ballot clause, but would leap into the field if they did so.
Today’s Group 3 Newcastle Gold Cup (2300m) winner Green Moon will receive a penalty on Monday.
