Leading jockey Nash Rawiller’s interest in the outcome of the Millie Fox Stakes will extend beyond enhancing an almost faultless record on the odds-on favourite for the race.
Rawiller will continue his association with Red Tracer in the Group Two event for fillies and mares at Rosehill.
One of Australia’s best racemares, Red Tracer stifles betting as Rawiller chases his eighth win in nine rides on the Chris Waller-trained star.
But the return of Longport will have implications for Rawiller deeper into the Sydney racing because he has a Coolmore Classic commitment to the four-year-old.
“Nash has been booked for the Coolmore although things can change. You know what it’s like these days,” Longport’s trainer Doug Bougoure said.
Rawiller was in the saddle as Longport rounded off the main part of her Millie Fox preparation with a Randwick course proper gallop on Tuesday morning.
“She’s not an outstanding track worker but she probably went as good as she can go,” Bougoure said.
Bougoure took over Longport’s training when the former Patinack Farm mare changed hands for $800,000 last year.
His focus is getting a Group One result for the mare’s new owner and that’s why he will send her into the Coolmore Classic after the Millie Fox.
“If you look at her second-up record it’s pretty good and the Coolmore is her primary target,” Bougoure said.
“We can only do what we think is right and if it pays off it will be fantastic.”
Brisbane jockey Michael Cahill warms the seat for Rawiller on Saturday as Longport starts her second campaign for Bougoure as a $15 outsider.
Red Tracer revelled in heavy going to win last year’s Millie Fox and she has an extra 2kg to make it a double on Saturday.
But since she defeated Risk Aversion in 2013, Red Tracer has posted Group One wins against her own sex in the Tattersall’s Tiara and the Myer Classic.
