Former Australian sprinter Starspangledbanner has been given an entry in the Minstrel Stakes at the Curragh on July 21.
Originally trained in Victoria by Leon Corstens, Starspangledbanner was bought by Coolmore to join Aidan O’Brien for the 2010 season followed by a dual hemisphere career at stud.
After a pipe-opener at York he won the Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and the July Cup before finishing second in the Nunthorpe. Even though he was only fifth in the Haydock Sprint Cup he was crowned champion sprinter for the year.
He was then retired but ongoing fertility problems meant a return to Ballydoyle to join O’Brien’s racing team once more.
Starspangledbanner’s Australian victories include the 2009 Caulfield Guineas and 2010 Oakleigh Plate.
