Confusion over Faint Perfume ride as Bart picks up pace

The ride on current Melbourne Cup favourite Faint Perfume is up in the air, despite one jockey claiming to have been booked to ride her throughout the spring.

Big race rider Glen Boss announced yesterday that he had picked up the ride on the VRC Oaks winner, who is trained by the legendary Bart Cummings.

However, racing manager for Cummings Bill Charles said that he had only been booked for the Caulfield Cup.

“It is news to the stable that Glen Boss will be riding Faint Perfume throughout the spring,” Charles told Racenet.

“He has been booked to ride Faint Perfume at this stage in the Caulfield Cup only.”

Charles said that Michael Rodd, who has ridden the filly at her last seven starts, would have first refusal for the ride.

However, she was likely to receive too light a weight in the Caulfield Cup for Rodd to ride.

It was thought that Boss may not ride for Cummings again after the pair disagreed over the jockey’s ride on stable superstar So You Think in the Group 1 Emirates Stakes (1600m) last year.

So You Think finished second to All American in the Emirates Stakes, two weeks after a freakish run in the Cox Plate (2040m).

Both Faint Perfume and So You Think will trial at Flemington on Friday morning, with a decision to be made on a starting point for both horses.

Faint Perfume is likely to take the traditional route to the Melbourne Cup, via the Caulfield Cup, while So You Think may attempt to emulate the deeds of Saintly by running in the Melbourne Cup after he attempts to defend his Cox Plate title.
