Chris Waller is looking to begin the Group One year the same way he left the last.

The Waller-trained Moriarty claimed the final Group One of 2014 when he won the Kingston Town Stakes in Perth.

Beaten Up will try to keep the ball rolling in 2015 in the C F Orr Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

“He will be nominated for the Apollo Stakes in Sydney as well but I want to see him in Melbourne because the Australian Cup is the goal,” Waller said.

“He came through his first-up run really well.”

The winner of the 2013 Doomben Cup, Beaten up finished eighth in the Expressway Stakes (1200m) beaten less than three lengths.

His stablemate Weary won the Group Two sprint and will be among Waller’s runners in the Apollo Stakes (1400m) at Randwick.

The trainer admits to being disappointed with the Expressway performance of Boban who finished ninth after failing to show his customary dash at the end of the race.

He is hoping the soft track was the reason and will take the gamble he will improve in the Apollo.

Waller will run Winx and Amicus in the Light Fingers Stakes for three-year-old fillies at Randwick.

Amicus is a Group One winner of the Thousand Guineas while Winx ran second to First Seal in the Flight Stakes.

“Amicus has come back a lot stronger and she is already a Group One winner so this race will tell us how they stack up against the other fillies,” Waller said.

“The Coolmore Classic is the aim for Amicus.”

First Seal will be among their rivals in the Light Fingers which also features the return of Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Peggy Jean.
