The early season dominance of She’s A Fox has prompted a change of plans for talented Queensland filly Doubtfilly.
Originally, trainer Stuart Kendrick was planning to begin Doubtfilly’s Sydney spring campaign in the Silver Shadow Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm on Saturday.
However he does not want to risk Doubtfilly having a first up “gut-buster” in the Group Three event which is the next target for She’s A Fox who has recorded effortless wins at her past two starts at Warwick Farm.
“Instead of going into the Silver Shadow first-up I’ve decided to run her at Doomben next Saturday which looks a softer option,” Kendrick said.
“It’s worth $53,000 to the winner and if she can win that it pays for her trip and the rest of her campaign.
“If I ran her in the Silver Shadow she’d be going in first-up and not fully wound up against the top fillies who have had more racing under their belt.”
Interestingly, while She’s A Fox is regarded as having the Silver Shadow at her mercy following her explosive recent form, she finished behind Doubtfully at their only clash in the Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill in March.
After suffering her only defeat, She’s A Fox was sent to the spelling paddock following her sixth to Ichihara in the Magic Night, 1-1/2 lengths behind Doubtfilly who ran fourth.
Doubtfilly ended her autumn campaign with a creditable fourth in Pierro’s Golden Slipper and has pleased Kendrick with her progress this preparation, winning a jump-out at Mackay last Wednesday before being floated to Brisbane.
Spring carnival goals meanwhile remain in place for Snipzu despite her shock first-up flop as a $2 favourite at the Sunshine Coast on August 5 when she could finish only sixth, beaten almost eight lengths in a 1000m three-year-old event carrying topweight of 59kg.
Trainer Liam Birchley remains committed to a Sydney campaign for the filly who has since won a 900m jump out at Doomben last Tuesday.
