Brazen Beau has upstaged the best sprinters in the world to win the $1 million Newmarket Handicap at Flemington.
Dominating the race from the 200m for Hong Kong-based jockey Joao Moreira, Brazen Beau ($5.50) blitzed a field headlined by last year’s winner Lankan Rupee.

The three-year-old was in a race of his own as he strolled to a 2-3/4 length win over Chautauqua ($3.20) with Terravista ($5.50) a half length away third.
“He is just an outstanding type of a horse … he really knows what racing is all about,” Moreira said.
Brazen Beau began brilliantly and was racing outside the leader before Moreira switched his mount toward the running rail.
It was move that was rewarded with a winning break for the horse which was sold to Darley Stud earlier this season.
“I was expecting to be a bit farther back than where he ended up in the race but he just knows what racing’s about, he knows what to do,” Moreira said.
It was Moreira’s second Group One win on the Chris Waller-trained colt after he was in the saddle in a Coolmore Stud Stakes triumph in the spring.
Chautauqua made late ground after being held up between horses while Terravista had an economical run behind the speed in taking the minor placing.
Lankan Rupee sat midfield but was left exposed from his draw and he never threatened the first three placegetters.
