Brisbane Trainer Liam Birchley has been busy checking airline timetables as he maps out interstate campaigns for his runners including a South Australian trip for star filly Missy Longstocking.
Birchley will be in Sydney on Saturday to saddle up first starter Gun Case in the Irresistible Pools and Spas Hcp (1100m) at Rosehill.
A son of former top race mare Brief Embrace, three-year-old Gun Case has been backed at $41 with many corporate bookmakers and is now as short as $12 with some.
Birchley said Gun Case had gone fairly in two recent jump outs and was heading to Sydney because of a lack of suitable races in Brisbane.
“He trialled last year and then we spelled him. I had him ready a few weeks back but he got a minor injury so we missed a few suitable races in Brisbane,” Birchley said.
Gun Case is the only Rosehill ride for jockey Robert Thompson, who often combines with Birchley in Brisbane.
Meanwhile, Birchley said Missy Longstocking was not ready for the Sydney carnival and would head to Adelaide where her ultimate aim would be the $300,000 Group One Goodwood (1200m) on May 10.
“The Goodwood is a set weights and penalties race which will suit her,” he said.
“There are also a stack of fillies and mares races in the Adelaide carnival which will suitable for her.”
Missy Longstocking, who has won eight races and $659,000 prize money, has not raced since running 11th in the Magic Millions Guineas (1400m) in January.
Her stablemate Emmalene is back in Brisbane after failing to get to the races in Sydney.
“She’s got a few niggling problems and it is no good taking on Sydney class with any problems,” Birchley said.
“Emmalene is back here and we are looking at the winter carnival with her.”
