Bjorn Baker won’t hesitate to back up Mr Steal at Rosehill on Saturday after the horse ran his midweek rivals ragged at Warwick Farm.

Brenton Avdulla adopted catch-me-if-you-can tactics on the lightly raced stayer whose win capped a rapid rise through the grades from his debut fifth at Bathurst less than two months ago.

Baker declared his intention to run Mr Steal for the second time this week in the More Than Ready @ Vinery Handicap (2400m) at Rosehill with Avdulla retaining the ride.

“I think so. Why not? I’ve never been one to leave them in the box and he’s going well,” Baker said.

“It will probably be his last run this prep and he’s definitely fit enough.”

Mr Steal is owned by Baker’s stable client Scott Richardson who has raced several horses with the Warwick Farm trainer, including multiple city winner Burbero.

Richardson bought Mr Steal cheaply after he was sacked by his previous owners.

“I stand to be corrected whether he bought him for $200 or $400 in New Zealand and hence he’s called Mr Steal,” Baker said.

“He’s a half to Thunder Lady so he’s actually got a pretty good pedigree.”

Mr Steal is among 11 acceptors for Saturday’s 2400m race and will be among four runners for the trainer at Rosehill.

Baker will also saddle up Hard To Hold in the Ruben Guthrie In Cinemas July 16 Handicap, Off The Rails in the Cellarbrations Handicap and veteran sprinter Zaratone in the TAB.com.au Handicap.

A rising 10-year-old, Zaratone retains his zest for racing and will appreciate a return to his pet distance of 1100m after his last-start fourth in the Winter Dash (1200m) at Randwick.

The horse has posted 10 of his 17 wins over Saturday’s distance and half of those have been at Rosehill.

“Over 1200 metres on a bog track last time, the race ended up being more like 1300 metres,” Baker said.

“But the horse is in good order.”

A field of 12 plus three emergencies was paid up for the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) including the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained pair of Dothraki and Rose Of Choice.

Both horses return from winter carnival campaigns in Queensland where Dothraki was a last-start winner at the Gold Coast while Rose Of Choice comes off an unplaced run in the Group One Tattersall’s Tiara.
