The Group 1 Myer Classic is a popular race for three year old horses and above, held over a distance of 1600 metres under weight for age conditions. Held as part of the popular Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne every season, the Myer Classic is highly anticipated each and every year. The Myer Classic is held on the same day as the Victoria Derby, Mackinnon Stakes, and Coolmore Stud Stakes.

The Myer Classic has been run since 1988, with Concordance being the first ever winner. This event was a Listed race until 1995, graduating at first to a Group 3 event and then to a Group 2 event in 1997. The Myer Classic became a Group 1 event fairly recently in 2004, and has been known as the Myer Classic due to Myer sponsorship since 2005.
Some of the other names which the Myer Classic event has been known as include the Hardy Bros. Classic, the Honda Legend, the Hong Kong Bank Stakes, and Nestle Peters Classic event. The Myer Classic has been won by a number of noteworthy horses throughout its history, including recent winners Hurtle Myrtle in 2011, Sacred Choice in 2010, and Typhoon Tracy in 2009.
The 2011 edition of the Myer Classic was won by Hurtle Myrtle, who overcame a wide barrier to win from Sacred Choice in second position and Sysphonia in third.
