Darren Weir trains two of the key runners in the benchmark 90 handicap over 1600m at Morphettville this Saturday and Sportsbet.com.au punters have singled out one of them as one of the hardest to beat.
Count Encosta really caught the eye first up when running on strongly late to run fourth in the Echuca Cup, so with the added fitness under the belt, plus the fact he won second up last time in, $5 seemed pretty good odds and the punters have taken it, firming him into $3.70.
The other Weir runner is Priority Road, who was enormous in defeat when fifth in the Kilmore Cup. He opened $3.30 and hasn’t budged from that price, while the favourite is the Phillip Stokes trained Defiant Angel, who opened $2.70 and has been well supported, firming into even money despite drawing gate eight of nine.
Here To There has also had backing, firming to $11 from $16, as has recent Flemington winner River’s Lane ($7.50-$6).
